Full Text
Singular case of Larceny.—David Fisher, a colored waiter at the United States Hotel, was yesterday afternoon committed by the Mayor for a further hearing, on the charge of stealing a trunk of female wearing apparel, the property of A. Barron, a gentleman from the State of Louisiana. The circumstances are peculiar, and places several parties in a strange situation. Mr. B. had with him two slaves, man and wife, and yesterday, when about to leave he ascertained that the female slave was among the missing: The trunk in question was subsequently found in possession of Fisher, having been removed from the woman's apartment, upon which the charge of larceny was instituted. As a matter of course, he was suspected of being cognizant of the woman's absconding and of her present whereabouts, and was held for a further hearing in reference thereto.—Philadelphia Ledger.
