Alleged Felony.—Yesterday afternoon there was no little commotion on the steps of Washington Hall, in consequence of the intrusion of Joseph L. Hays among a circle of gentlemen who were standing there, and the arrest of one of the party. The prisoner demanded the reason of his arrest, and those in conversation with him were much surprised to learn that it was on a charge of felony. They endeavored to persuade the officer that he had mistaken his man; but he knew what he was about, and in a few moments ushered his new acquaintance into the police office.

The appearance of the prisoner was highly respectable.

The case as it was given in evidence appeared as follows. The prisoner boarded at the Eastern Hotel in Pearl street, and yesterday morning several of the boarders discovered that they had been robbed. A suspicion, by some means or other, rested upon the prisoner, and on application being made to the police, a warrant was issued for his apprehension. It was his practice not to dine at his boarding house, but at the Washington or National Hotel. He was taken into a private room, searched, and some of the lost money found upon his person. The bills that were in his purse, were recognized immediately by one of the complainants, as the identical ones that he had endorsed but the previous day. Under these circumstances the magistrates had no other alternative, but to take his examination and sign a commitment to Bridewell.

The connexions of the party, both in Maryland and this city, are highly respectable.—N. Y. Jour. Com.
