The Casper Tribune in the course
of an article booming B. B. Brooks
for congress says: "In the cause of
silver our candidate is unequivocal,
and in favor of the free and unlimited
coinage of the white metal."
As to the influence of free coinage
on the prosperity of the country it
says in another connection: "It is a
fallacy to presume that anything less
than the restoration of business confidence, by the final disposition of
the tariff schedule, can increase the
circulation of money. The free and
unlimited coinage of silver would not
only have no effect upon the circulation, but would tend to cheapen currency and increase the amount of idle
capital now in the banks, and which
is practically unfavorable."
If, in the judgment of the Natrona
county republicans, free silver
is really harmful then it is ridiculous
to put forward a candidate who is alleged to represent those views. His
course, if elected, would only be
harmful to the country and even the
Tribune should be patriotic enough
to refrain from doing anything calculated to have an evil influence on
business. If Mr. Brooks really has
any settled convictions on the subject of silver then the Tribune,
whether intentionally or not, is really
stabbing him in the back, but if he
hasn't no real harm has been done.
