Full Text
The work, now finished, is a complete vindication of Mayor Little, under whom the work was commenced, and to whose restless energy and watchful care much of the success is now due; to the City Council which manifested an unusual zeal in the matter; to Engineer Fox, whose judgment has been shown to be good, notwithstanding predictions to the contrary; to Hon. John T. Caine and others who fought for the measure in the Territorial Legislature; to Watermaster Wilckin, to Road Supervisor Livingston, and to Mayor Jennings, latterly who has manifested the same zeal and energy as did his predecessor; in fact, to all who have been connected directly with the undertaking. The work has been done thoroughly, and to all appearances economically, the whole purpose manifested seemingly being to attain the greatest amount of good to the public and to make a signal success of the Canal.
