W. G. Goff, postmaster of De Soto, has sent in his resignation, to take effect as soon as his successor is appointed by the President. Mr. Goff's term does not expire until April 23, 1898. He was appointed in 1893 by President Cleveland, and prior to his appointment he was assistant postmaster for seven years, his service being so satisfactory that he was left in office during the Republican administration. The applicants for the position are W. E. Croy, formerly editor of De Soto Facts, and D. L. Rongly, a merchant, and Valentine Lidinger, an old soldier.
