Panama, April 10.-Hon. Beverly L. Clark, of
Kentucky, United States Minister Resident to Guatamala and Honduras, who has been suffering several
months from diabetes, died on the 17th March. His
funeral ceremonies were conducted with great pomp
by the Catholic clergy, and of course most of the
Government officers and foreign diplomatic agents
assisted in the rites. Mr. Clark's wife and family
came passengers on the Guatamala, and leave for
home to-day. The report is generally credited in
Guatamala that Mr. Clark was absolved by the
Church from his marriage vows two days before his
death, that he might join the Order of the Franciscan
Monks. Mr. Clark made a public profession of
Catholicism in the city of Guatemela on the 15th
of December last, and was baptized by the Bishop of
Nicaraugua, and took the baptismal name of Augustus. His remains were deposited in the pantheon
of the Church of San Francisco. Mr. Clark is the
third United States Minister who has died in Guatamala within four years--Messrs. Malin and
Venable having preceded him to the tomb.
