Fire.—On Saturday morning last, about 7 o'clock, the roof of the old distillery in Deer-Street was discovered to be on fire, which, fortunately had not made much headway and was soon subdued. The alarm raised on the occasion was truly startling, for the wind was very violent and the fire in a position to sweep the town from one extremity to the other. The fire was undoubtedly caused by sparks from the chimneys of the Engine House of the Rail-Road Company; as the distillery is in a position to receive them in such a wind as prevailed at the time, and sparks and even brands are said to have been seen to fall near the still-house. The building is extremely old and dilapidated and, as now situated, is a constant source of apprehension and alarm. We hope some arrangement will be promptly made to remove the danger.
