"Never before," says that paper, "has it been our fortune to witness or participate in such a general outburst of sincere enthusiasm as that which pervaded the few Americans in Sonora, on the arrival of the W. L. Macy at Guaymas, on the 3d of June last, with the first star-spangled banner which we saw since our arrival in Sonora, proudly floating to the breeze, indicative of the fact that somebody was there.—And who should be more welcome to every American present than Richard Roman, the new American Consul for Guaymas. The news of the arrival spread like wildfire, and at 7 o'clock on the following morning the new Consul arrived at the mole, in the gig of the Macy, over which floated majestically the "stars and stripes"—immediately opposite the same old fort where they had previously waved so triumphantly. Here the major was most warmly and enthusiastically received by his fellow-citizens in Guaymas, by whom he was escorted to the residence of Mr. Belcher."
