SEPARATION.

MR. JENKS,

AS the important question of separating this District from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is to be agitated in the approaching session of the General Court, it is hoped that no supineness on the part of our representatives, will prevent their utmost exertions to accomplish this desirable object. Nothing is wanting but a little exertion to effect it immediately. What objection can possibly be raised? It is presumed every one sees the importance of the measure. As one of the barriers of the Union, we should acquire an importance in the eyes of the States—and the influence of two voices in the Senate of the United States, is a weighty consideration. These, with the many advantages we should derive from the administration of a government among ourselves, urge the measure beyond the possibility of objection.
