DYING, RECEIVES NO CARE
Pat Curran Is Arrested and Lodged In Jail Where Medical Attendance Cannot be Had.
Pat M. Curran is lying in the county jail suffering from a loathsome disease and no relief can be obtained for him because he has no funds with which to be taken care of at one of the local hospitals and the police refuse to take him to either one of the local institutions because the city refuses to pay bills for medical treatment.
Curran was picked up on the street by an officer Saturday evening and placed in jail on the charge of being insane. The authorities now say a disease is eating his life away and it will probably be only a short time before the end comes.
Curran's condition is such that the other prisoners can hardly stay in the jail.
A short time ago one of the leading physicians was called by a policeman to attend a patient at the Walla Walla hospital and after the doctor had turned his bill over to the council that body disallowed the same for the reason that payment by the city would establish a bad precedent.
The city health officer was called to see Curran yesterday afternoon, but the man is still occupying a cell in the city jail.
Curran was taken to the county poor farm this afternoon.
