Full Text

The Citizens of this town and county, are making preparations for the reception of General Lafayette in a style suitable to the feelings, the hospitality, and simplicity of our country. We shall have the pleasure of collecting together a very respectable number of Revolutionary officers and soldiers, many of whom served under his immediate command, and who are ardently desirous of once more beholding the gallant foreigner who left the comforts and splendour of his own happy lot, to share the hardships and dangers of theirs. These, in addition to the thousands who will be collected together of the descendants of that generation which achieved our independence, will be ready to give him such a reception, as will be worthy the Patriot and soldier to whom it is offered, and the freemen who bestow it.
