Full Text
It is understood that since the refusal of the tobacco inspectors to surrender the State tobacco warehouses to the lessees who recently acquired their title under the law of last session, the tobacco commissioners have addressed a communication to Gov. Hicks, setting forth the facts. They call his attention to the loss which must accrue to the revenue from the refusal of his appointees to obey the law, the income being about $27,000 per year more under the new system than under the old. The Governor is asked if the conduct of the tobacco inspectors, over whom he has full control and the power of dismissal, meets his approbation, and if he justifies their action, &c. The Governor’s reply has not been received.
