HALIFAX, in Nova-Scotia, July 8. About four Days ago, upwards of 40 Irishmen (who had been employ'd as Labourers on George's Island, and lately discharged) deserted us, and went over to the Indian Enemy. They are all Roman Catholicks, as it appears, concerted their Scheme some Time ago, intending to have made their Escape from the Island, had they not been discharged. — One of the principal of them, whose Name is Ryan, was taken, and is now in Irons : We hear the Remainder of those that were discharged, are to be employed to picket in the Town of Dartmouth, which is at present almost wholly deserted, except by the Soldiery.
