One-hundred and twenty-five Diamond Alkali Foremen's Club members and guests were in attendance at the club's annual sports night, which was held at Grady's on Thursday night. The program featured the presence of "Red" Jones, former American League baseball umpire, who gained popularity in this area with his between-the-innings stories on the telecasts of the Cleveland Indian baseball games this past season.
The evening began with an invocation by W. R. D. Wolff and the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, after which a roast-beef dinner was served.
After the meal, George Olle, president of the club, introduced the retired members present. They were: Jimmy Britton, Bill Stange, Frank Irwin, Glen Keener, and John Briesemeister.
The president then presented a certificate from the National Association of Foremen to Don White, immediate past president.
Introduction of Ed Puschaver, program chairman, followed. Mr. Puschaver announced plans for the annual kids' Christmas party to be held December 21 and introduced Mr. Jones.
The popular ex-umpire delighted the crowd with rollicking accounts of various amusing experiences during his 21 years as a baseball umpire. At the conclusion of his laugh-provoking story-telling, a brief question-and-answer period was held.
