Between 250 and 300 men stormed the police station Friday night, in an effort to rescue Mrs. Dorothy Johnson, penny arcade employee, called as a witness by the police. The crowd believed she was wrongfully arrested. Mrs. Johnson was summoned to divulge information concerning the recent movements of burglar suspects held by the police. A provost guard from the local training station and the reserve police squad cleared the streets. Mrs. Johnson was released after being questioned. Mr. Johnson was questioned regarding what she knew of the activities of several of eight youths recently escaped from the state training school at Chehalis, arrested Friday in Seattle for extensive burglaries. Among others, they are alleged to have stolen $300 worth of jewelry from A. J. Stretch, of 1163 Sunset ave. Charles Wells, 16, one of the boys, was captured while burglarizing the house of W. J. Sasen, of 634 N. 74th st. Two others with him escaped, to be captured a short time later. The boys' headquarters at 1604 Ninth ave. yielded a considerable quantity of 'loot,' the police say.
The eight arrested are Charles Wells, 16; Herbert Hughett, 17; James Teasley, 11; Bert Lang, 14; Al Harriman, 16; Thurdet Woods, 17; Raymond Gaines, 15, and Arthur Foucault, 18. They were spread over the city in groups of two and three, breaking into houses at the time of their arrest, the police say. Soldiers and sailors were in the crowd that led in the demonstration against the police when Mrs. Johnson was arrested.
