Event Details
The inhabitants unanimously approved the Proceedings of the CONTINENTAL CONGRESS and appointed a COMMITTEE of Twenty of the most respectable Inhabitants to see the Associations entered into, and recommended by the Congress, faithfully executed. They chose a Committee of five Persons, viz. the Rev. John Adams, Mess. Moses Emerson, and John Smith the 3d. Ebenezer Thompson, and John Sullivan, Esq'rs to correspond with the Committees of the several Towns in this and the neighbouring Governments. The several Inhabitants present unanimously entered into and signed an Association to discourage and discountenance every Species of Gaming, neither practicing it themselves nor allowing it under them or in their Houses, to refrain from houses allowing gaming, and to break off dealings with those who game. The Meeting recommended to the Select-Men to immediately increase the Town Stock with Two hundred Weight of POWDER, Four Hundred Weight of BALLS, and five Hundred FLINTS.
