At a Town-Meeting held at Durham on Monday the 28th Instant.--The Inhabitants, after unanimously approving of the Proceedings of the CONTINENTAL CONGRESS, appointed a COMMITTEE of Twenty of the most respectable Inhabitants to see the Associations entered into, and recommended by the Congress, faithfully executed. They then chose a Committee of five Persons, viz. the Rev. John Adams, Mess. Moses Emerson, and John Smith the 3d. Ebenezer Thompson, and John Sullivan, Esq'rs to correspond with the Committees of the several Towns in this and the neighbouring Governments; after which the several Inhabitants present, unanimously entered into and signed an Association, that they would do all in their Power to discourage and discountenance every Species of Gaming; that they would neither practice any kind of Gaming themselves, nor suffer any under them to use or practice the same, or allow or suffer the same in their Houses. That in case any Taverner, Innholder or Retailer should suffer any kind of Gaming within their Houses, they would ever after refrain using said Houses for Refreshment or Entertainment, and that if any Inhabitants should presume to use or practice any Sort of Gaming, that they would break off all Connection, Commerce and Dealing with such Person. The Meeting then recommended to the Select-Men, immediately to increase the Town Stock, Two hundred Weight of POWDER, Four Hundred Weight of BALLS, and five Hundred FLINTS.
