Vetoed by President
At Chamber meeting today it was announced that the funds for dredging Nome harbor amounting to $53,000 were in the bill recently vetoed by President Eisenhower. The Chamber was notified by Sen. Ernest Gruening who said he would do everything he could to see that it is included in another bill.
The labor reform bills before Congress were reviewed and the Chamber moved to wire Sens. Gruening and Bartlett of the support of the Chamber to the Landrum-Griffin bill. Both of the Alaska senators had voted against another reform bill earlier in the session.
Guests were Claude Masset, representing France's largest daily newspaper, the France Soir, Jo-Hanne Zerbey-Martz, representing the Pottsville Republican of Pottsville, Penn., and Neil Heitman of Fairbanks.
Since next Monday is Labor Day, the Chamber will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday.
