A Word to Democrats.
Mr. Editor: Another Primary is upon us. Let us hope that slates, combinations and cliques will not be formed in order to defeat the wishes of the people. Let those who aspire for public favors, each and all, have a fair chance, so that after the nominations are made there will be no sense of injustice done, and so that all will cheerfully support the nominees. This custom of promising all kind of offices and things, and frequently the same offices and things to everyone, so as to catch the unwary and then deceiving them after they have been tricked out of their votes, is closely akin to criminality. It is this which is disrupting our party- it was this which caused partial disaster in 1897. Voters, beware of professional politicians who, to get your vote, will promise you the earth, but who, as you know from the past, will, after the vote is given, let you eat dirt. Vote from a sense of justice, actuated solely for the good of your party, and then what you get will be fairly and honorably earned.
