Mr. Calhoun And Gen. Jackson -The Washington Spectator remarks that a "pamphlet in vindication of Mr. Calhoun is daily expected," and that several members of Congress have already enquired for it at the book stores in that city. If the information which we have received on this subject be correct, we apprehend that Mr. Calhoun will be able to justify himself in the opinion of the people, for the course which he thought proper to recommend to the Cabinet in regard to the invasion of Florida by Gen. Jackson. If it be true that when Gen. Jackson was ordered to assume the command of the army directed against the Seminole Indians, he became possessed of the instructions previously given to Gen. Gaines, and was also furnished by the War Department with a copy of the same instructions, prohibiting him, under any circumstances, from entering the Spanish Territory, we cannot understand by what logic he could affect to consider them as not binding upon himself, because they had first been given to an inferior officer. Upon the receipt of the intelligence at Washington, that he had, in violation of these orders, actually attacked a Spanish military post, it is not wonderful that the Secretary of War should have been of opinion that the General ought to be arrested and tried for an infraction of duty and a breach of the neutral rights of a friendly power. We are informed that Mr. Calhoun has never denied the course pursued by him in this affair, and further, that there are collateral subjects of an interesting character which will eventually be unfolded and explained to the American people.
