ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.—Yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon, Wm. Plummer, a carpenter, residing in the southeastern part of town, attempted suicide by cutting his throat with a razor. He had been sick for several months, laboring under dyspepsia in a severe form, which had a depressing effect on his mind, causing occasional symptoms of insanity. A short time before he committed the rash act, he requested his wife to go to a neighbor's and carry a bouquet to a young lady. She was reluctant to go, but he was so urgent that she finally consented. She was absent but a short time, leaving him alone, and on her return found him in the wood-shed, still alive, but unable to speak. Dr. Shepherd sewed up and dressed his wound, as well as it could be done, and by the aid of stimulants succeeded in reviving the unfortunate man so that in a few hours he was able to speak a little. He was still living early this morning, and we learn that there is a slight chance of his recovery.
