Hopkins Provides for 350,000 Additions in Current
Trade Slump
WASHINGTON, Dec. 10. (UP)
—WPA Administrator Harry L.
Hopkins last night said 350,000
additional persons will be added to
relief rolls soon in an effort to
soften the blows from the current
trade slump.
He estimated that the number
on relief now totals 1,575,000 as
compared with 1,537,430 on WPA
rolls during the week ending Dec.
4. Four states, New Jersey, New
York, Pennsylvania, South Dakota
and Alaska and the District of Co-
lumbia reported reductions in the
week ending Dec. 4.
Shortly before Hopkins made
his announcement, Rep. Henry T.
Ellenbogen, D., Pa., introduced a
bill seeking an additional relief
appropriation of $500,000,000 to
care for victims of the present
business recession.
