Douglas Lions met at a dinner meeting held at Mike's Place Monday evening, and worked over plans for the coming Community Hallowe'en Party to be dubbed the "Ghost Walk." This community party, which is for both children and the parents is an effort to provide something different for the youth of the community and so that parents will not have to remain home for Trick or Treat which has been a custom in the past years. It is not intended to deprive the children of their treats, said the Lion spokesman, but to provide even more in the line of treats and to give the children some real tricks to do which require skill, etc.
Among committees reporting were Chris Ehrendreich, who stated prizes were already here and should please any child. Chairman Shudshift reported all committees were functioning; Steve Ford, reported smart decorations were planned and that a huge stateside pumpkin should be here for the event. Douglas Gray, who listed at least eight or nine games planned for the children besides the fish pond, with Rev. Rings, L. W. Richards, James Doyle, Richard Shuman, Bob Isaac, Leonard Johnson, C. Gildersleeve Elroy Fleek and Harold Krueger on his game committee.
SKATING RINK
Lion James Doyle and William Boehl announced that plans for the Douglas Ice Skating rink are underway, that Rev. Hermann has surveyed the ball park, and work will begin soon to beat the freeze. The proposed rink will be 180 feet long by 90 feet wide. The ball park will be graded, filled some, and a wall built on the lower end.
NEW STREET SIGN
Secretary Steve Ford displayed a beautiful street sign, given by the Juneau Lions club, with Lions insgnia and showing place and time of Douglas club meetings.
BOY SCOUT DRIVE
Lion Tom Cashen announced Boy Scouts of America fund drive was now on and that members should do all they can to assist the scouting effort. He announced that Val Poor was appointed finance drive chairman for Douglas.
CLOTHES FOR KOREA
Lion President Johnson announces that service clubs are backing a drive for clothes for Korea, and that Douglas Lions would assist in this program. He emphasized that all clothes donated should be cleaned.
He also announced that the next meeting of the club would be a work night at the school in preparation for the Ghost Walk and that November 5 would be Douglas Ladies Night.
Guest of the meeting was Mr. Elliott Jones, a new resident of Douglas recently from Mt. Edgecumbe.
