Carrollton Circuit, Ga. Conf
Dear brethren,--The face of the country over which I have travelled this year, presents an undulating appearance, with some portions rather sterile; --though containing some tolerable farming lands,-- yet uncultivated,--where the husbandman might find a home, and a plentiful reward for his industry. The climate is healthful and mild, the water pure, and the pasturage fine. The state of religion is manifestly improving in this country. We have erected some three houses of worship this year, and have obtained subscriptions, to the amount of some four hundred dollars, for the building of a fourth one in Carrollton. We much congratulate our brethren and friends on the interest they have taken in this enterprise. The work is now in a prosperous and healthy condition. We have held several two-days' meetings --some of which we protracted to great advantage. Sinners were awakened, and some fourteen or fifteen found peace in believing. We have received into the Church, by certificate, and on trial, some hundred and seventy-five members. At our third quarterly meeting, held for this circuit, at Union camp-ground, the Lord most powerfully revived his work. This meeting commenced on the 11th inst., with thrilling interest, and continued ten days, with increased influence. The encampment and neighbouring forest alternately became vocal with the penitent cry, 'what must I do to be saved ?' together with the shouts and songs of the adopted. Here bowed many a proud heart, and received the engrafted word with meekness. Backsliders, too, grew weary of wandering from their God, returned, and realized their backslidings healed. The Church was wonderfully revived; many rejoicing parents received their children made every whit whole.' There were eighty-two accessions to the Church, and about one hundred clear and most powerful conversions. The work is still going on, and our 'heart's desire and prayer to God is,' that it may still spread, and prevail with increasing energy.
