On to-morrow the great sealed volume which is crazing half the politicians to know will be opened, and at least a few sample pages exhibited. U. S. Grant is to break that silence which has so long made him an enigma in politics, and the breaking of which will make the morning stars of some expectant republicans sing together for joy and send others away in sorrow to that obscurity which they fondly think themselves so little fitted to adorn. The occupation of an army of idle newspaper correspondents will, to a large extent, be gone, for there will soon be nothing for their active imaginations to feed on in the way of speculations as to Grant's cabinet. His policy will probably not be very definitely indicated, particularly as it is not yet certain that the Senate will allow him to have any policy which shall differ from their own. Nothing but some generalities which all parties will probably construe favorably may be expected Democrats will be found as ready, we hope, as Republicans to co-operate with him in any honest endeavor he may make to bring the government back to economy in administration, and peace and prosperity among its citizens.
