Urban League Club Hears Housing Aide
At the first fall meeting of the Gary Urban League Block Unit Leaders, John H. Warrick, City Housing Co-ordinator, informed the group of their responsibilities this in Gary's Conservation and Rehabilitation Program outside of the Pulaski Urban Renewal Area. Warrick stated that the efforts of the City Administration alone are not sufficient to eliminate sub-standard housing: the people of the community have an importance of more cooperation by the leader who represent more than 200 families in Gary. The leaders were requested to encourage more community pride, use available resources to create pressure, report cases of Housing and Zoning Code Violations and increase physical improvements through self-help projects.
The speaker revealed a Seven Point Program which he will propose for consideration by the city to enhance improvements in housing conditions.
Also at this meeting of the Block Unit leaders, Mrs. Ida Guy, Urban League Board Member awarded certificates of recognition to 93 winners in the Urban League Lawn Beautification Contest. Mrs. T. L. Jackson serves as president of the Federation of Block Units.
