Federal Economy.

Among the Blessings of the last year's administration of our state government, may be reckoned the refusal of the legislature to assume the payment of this state's quota of the Direct Tax. The people have a right to demand of their public servants, an explanation of the motives for such conduct. By the assumption of the tax the state would have saved, by the deduction of 15 per cent, 14,519 dollars. This added to the sum necessary to defray the expense of the extra session of the legislature, (about 10,000,) will make 24,519 dollars.— This sum might have been saved to the state but for the folly of a federal government.
