CONGRESS.

In the U. S. Senate on Tuesday, presentation of petitions, resolutions authorizing the Committee of Claims and the select committee on Mexican claims employ clerks were submitted and passed. The bill to increase the salary of judge of the United States district court of New-Hampshire was taken up, and after debate, it was ordered to a third reading. After the consideration of executive business, the Senate adjourned.

In the House of Representatives, Penn presented a joint resolution of the legislature of Louisiana, asking the permission of the general government to cast the Baton Rouge Council to appropriate a portion of the grounds attached to Baton Rouge barracks for a cemetery which was referred to the Committee on Military Affairs.

Mr. Fuller, of Maine, also introduced joint resolutions of the legislature of that State, praying Congress to regulate the transportation of passengers on ocean steamers plying on the Atlantic and Pacific between New-York and San Francisco; which were referred to the Committee on Commerce.

Mr. Marshall, of Kentucky, offered resolution calling on the President for original reports and maps of Col. and Captain Crane, United States railroad engineers, upon the improvement of the Ohio river at the falls of Louisville; which was agreed to.

The House then went into a committee of the Whole on the state of the Union (Mr. Hibbard in the chair,) and the special order—Mr. Andrew homestead bill speeches were made by Messrs. Fuller of Maine, Chase, Grow, and Skelton: and then the committee rose, and the House adjourned.
