Full Text

We have information which we regard as entirely reliable that the award of the Congressional Committee gives the conservatives nine Senators and a majority of eighteen in the Lower House. This makes a tie on joint ballot, on a party vote. The award gives the parishes of Caddo and Iberia to the republicans: DeSoto to the conservatives, and declares no election in Grant; Goode, separate from the Eighth District, is seated, and Elam, from the Twenty-second counted out. Under this award the conservatives are given all the members of the Lower House they claimed, except six; five of the six are given to the radicals, and one from Grant is to be elected, and as Grant has a conservative majority, there is no doubt a conservative will again be returned from that parish and seated. This would give the conservatives majority of one on joint ballot in the session of 1876, and elect the Senator if an election for one is held. The conservatives claimed two Senators and are given one. The Treasurer and parish officers were not passed upon by the committee.—Shreveport Times.
