The Charleston Mercury of the 16th contradicts the report that the South Carolina Delegation in Congress are favorable to the election of Gen. Taylor. The Mercury, alluding to a statement put forth by a correspondent of the Charleston Courier, says:

"We presume that he has intended in this to make a true representation; but his statement, to be correct, must be referred back to a time when Gen. Taylor's position, and that of his party, widely different from what they are now. We state, not from conjecture or hearsay, but from the highest authority, that one only of the entire delegation in both houses will support the election of Gen. Taylor."
