A very able Report has recently been made by the Superintendent of the common schools in the State of New-York, on the present condition of those invaluable institutions.
It appears by the Report, that in the short space of seven years, the number of children educated in these Schools has increased from 140,000 to 332,979. There are 6865 school districts in the State; and the proportion between the number of all the children in those districts, and those attending the schools is as 35 to 32. Including others educated in seminaries and other schools, the number of those which receive public instruction was estimated at 375,000. The average number of months in which the schools are kept is eight. The money expended the last year was 175,195 dollars.
