A tissue of Misrepresentation.

The authority of the Express for its very complacent account of the proceedings of the Democratic City Committee "at a private office, somewhere in D street, city of Marysville, about 10 of the clock, past meridian, on Thursday, the 10th day of February, Anno Domini 1859," must have been a queer authority indeed. The person who furnished the pretended account is but a poor specimen of that dignified class of individuals known as eaves droppers, if he cannot hear, with his long ears, any better than he seems to have done in the present instance.

We shall first correct the Express in the statement it makes upon its own authority. First, then, the original Committee was not composed of sixteen members, as stated by the Express, but fifteen, and the Express ought to have been well enough informed to know it. And again, the Douglas men on this Committee were identified with the Douglas side at the time that they were put upon the Committee at its original organization, and did not become Douglas men long after, as the Express would have it appear.

As to the alleged proceedings of the Committee, with the preliminaries, never, in the whole course of our life have we seen such a number of wholly untrue statements made in any narration that pretended to have any foundation at all.

It is not true, that there were only three persons acting on the occasion alluded to.
It is not true that "not one of the thirteen" were advised of the meeting.
It is not true that Mr. O'Connor moved "that Mr. Ellison take the Chair."
It is not true that, "on motion of Mr. Presbury, seconded by Mr. O'Connor, the Committee dispensed with the superfluity of a Secretary."
It is not true that Mr. Presbury offered the Resolution that the Express says he did, to-wit: the Resolution in relation to vacancies.
It is not true that "Mr. W- S-y, who was outside the imaginary bar, handed to Mr. Presbury a slip of paper." Nobody whose initials answer to W-S--y was present.
It is not true that Mr. Luke O'Brien "refused to co-operate" with the others of the Committee. He did co-operate with them in everything that they did.

But, it is unnecessary to follow up this manufactured report of imaginary proceedings any further. It would be a waste of time and paper. We must be allowed to remark, however, that the brazen faced assumption on the part of the Express and the Bolters, of a claim to Mr Luke O'Brien for their side of the House, after he has distinctly declared himself against them, is in very bad taste indeed. Mr. O'Brien is a man who knows his own mind, and is ready to act upon the views which he entertains. He is a sound Democrat, staunch and true to the party, and his friends have justly the most unbounded confidence in his firmness of character and integrity of purpose.

If the Express makes many more such statements as those in the article we have been noticing, it will get up a reputation for veracity decidedly enviable.
