To the Editor of The Arkansas Gazette

Fort Smith August 6th 1839

Sir Having observed in your paper an extract from the Army and Navy Chronicle relative to the New Military Road (now completed) between the Arkansas and Red River, and fearful the report of the scarcity of water might deprive many of the superior advantages the road possesses over any I have traveled in this country) I think it due to the public to state having recently traveled, and particularly examined said road, that good water can be obtained during the whole season summer and winter, at distance from water courses from to
