A Literary Public Dinner has been given to Mr. Verplanck, member of Congress from N. York, for his exertions in extending the privileges of authors and artists in copy rights. The company, about 70, assembled at the New York City Hotel, consisted principally of literary men and artists, without distinction of party. Ex-President Adams and Mr. E. Livingston were invited as guests, but could not attend the dinner. Mr. Verplanck made a neat and appropriate address, confined exclusively to literary topics, and commended the aid he had received from members of Congress and the press, without distinction of party, in securing the passage of the bill he had brought forward.
