On account of the instalment of the Prince of Orange, there was a grand ball at the Hague, at which there was one Lady whose gown was trimmed with diamonds to the value of 50,000 l. sterling; and her livery servants were in blue velvet, laced with gold. Among other illuminations that were made on that occasion, eight of the yachts that lay in the Maese before Rotterdam were finely illuminated, one in particular as though under sail, formed by glass lamps of different colours, and likewise the flag represented by lamps of red, blue, and white glass.
