THE SHOOTING OF JUDGE TERRY.
It appears that the Deputy United States Marshal who shot Judge Terry at Lathrop, California, was acting as escort to Justice Stephen J. Field of the United States Supreme Court who was on his way to Los Angeles. Lathrop is a dining station on the Southern Pacific Railroad. Mrs. Terry entered the dining hall where she saw Judge Field at a table. She went back to the car and procured a satchel with which she returned to the hall followed by Judge Terry. Mrs. Terry made some insulting remarks to Judge Field which he did not notice and Judge Terry walked to the chair where he sat and slapped him. Judge Field did not move and Terry again struck him on the face and as he did so the Deputy Marshal shot him.
