PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 12.

On Wednesday last the atmosphere over our city was so clear, that both the beautiful planets, Jupiter and Venus, were visible to the naked eye even at noonday. Jupiter being in Cancer, 5° west of the sun, could be seen until within an hour of his setting, which was at thirty-seven minutes past three in the afternoon; and Venus being in Leo. 28° west of the sun, was visible almost to her going down, at seven minutes past four in the afternoon. Venus was so very conspicuous during the whole day, that the most of our citizens had the pleasure of viewing this curious phenomenon.

Those who have not had an opportunity of seeing these planets in the middle of the day, may expect to be gratified on the next clear day; as they will continue to be equally conspicuous for upwards of two months to come but their distance from the sun will increase; except Venus, which will have her greatest elongation the 19th of next month. about which time she will appear to shine with the greatest lustre possible: after that time she will gradually appear to move back toward the sun; and change from being the morning star to that of the evening.
