MIDNIGHT REPORT.

HOUSE.

Washington, March 17.

The House met in committee of the whole. Nothing being in order but general debate on the President's message there were few members in attendance. No interest was taken in the proceedings which were anything but enlivening.

Mr. Hill, of Indiana, addressed the House at length on the question of reconstruction.

Mr. Dumont, of Indiana, next spoke. He said he deemed the President's policy as unwise, ruinous and disastrous.

The available balance in the treasury on the 10th inst., was as follows: Coin, $5,779,921; currency, $65,628,964; total, $71,408,885, of which the sum of $21,000,000 was on deposit in the national banks.

Adjourned.
