A large body of Spanish forces marched upon the frontiers of Portugal. The Spanish Ministry demanded a peremptory answer from the Court of Portugal regarding a request from the Court of Madrid to refuse admittance to English ships of war in Portuguese harbors. The Court of Portugal delivered a copy of the Spanish declaration dated May 23, 1780, to the British Envoy at Lisbon, who sent it home by the Milford frigate.
