Last evening's Chronicle says: Carson is stewing with political excitement. Every other man, nearly, is a candidate for some State or county office, and those who are not in the field themselves stand around the corners and in front of the saloons and tell how they intend to lift the scalp of this or that aspirant for place. The horde of journalists at the Capital are absolutely growing fat, it being part of the Carson politician's plan of campaign to invite journalists to drink, and no saloon in the town dares to be without a free lunch. However much the editors may differ on other points, they would instantly combine to suppress any saloon-keeper who should venture upon a grubless innovation. After the sun has set the candidates come out and sit on the railing which runs along the outside of the sidewalk in front of the State-house. The sight reminds one of a flock of blackbirds on a telegraph wire. The populace gather and view the array and discuss the chances of the fence ornaments while the small boy hoots and the journalist prospects for invitations. Ladies take back streets to avoid the noisy mob.
