Halloween Parade
Plans were completed this week for the annual Halloween Parade which is sponsored by the West Jefferson Community and Business Men's Association. The event will be held on Thursday evening, October 31.
Contestants in the parade are to meet at the Glenn Webb Shell Station, West Main Street at 6:30 p.m. The parade will start at 7:00 p. m. led by the West Jefferson High School Band and will march directly to the city hall.
Judging will take place in the following classes: Most comical, most original, best dressed, vehicle section (bicycles), cowboys and Indians, gypsy, miscellaneous and best of all.
Awards of five dollars will be given to the best in each class with three dollars going to the second place winner and two dollars for third place. Best of all winner will receive twenty-five dollars.
Cunningham and Young Used Car Dealers will sponsor a round and square dance on their lot on East Main Street immediately following the parade and judging. Music will be provided by the Rhythm Jesters.
Wendell Steinmetz, president of the association, has appointed the following to the Halloween committee: Dick Kinnard, chairman; Randy Buchman and Wilber Strauss. Harold Wilson will be chairman of the window decorating committee.
All children between the ages of four to six and seven to nine are invited to enter the window decorating contest which will be held in conjunction with the celebration.
West Jefferson merchants are cooperating with the committee by furnishing their display windows for the event. Windows decorated must be completed by October 28. Judging will take place October 29. Awards will be given the winners.
Throughout the celebration free candy and chewing gum will be provided for the youngsters.
