Capture of Counterfeiters.—The Journal of Commerce of Tuesday says—The Police Office presented a lively scene this morning, occasioned by the presence of twelve counterfeiters who were apprehended last evening in their attempts to pass counterfeit five dollar bills of the Fulton Bank. As soon as the bills were detected, it was presumed by the Police that large quantities of them would be put in circulation in the course of the evening, and information was communicated to the shopkeepers as early as possible, with a view to the arrest of every suspicious person who might offer to pass them. Before morning eleven notorious characters were safely lodged in the watch house, under circumstances that leave no doubt that they constitute a part of the gang who operate as the agents of the manufacturers. It is believed that several thousand dollars were passed during the night. The accused were confronted this morning with the complainants, and after being examined were fully committed for trial. One individual confessed that he had passed about twenty bills.
