Begins Thursday
Arrangements for the opening of the Mt. Sterling Seven-Day Chautauqua on Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock in the chautauqua tent on the school grounds are almost complete. The program this year is replete with timely lectures and music of an enjoyable character. There will be lectures on such vital themes as "Modern Unrest," "The Place of the Farm in Modern Life," and "Facing the Task." A complete production of the famous Gilbert & Sullivan light opera "Pinafore," a sparkling comedy success "Nothing But the Truth"; Louise Stallings, Lyric Mezzo soprano; New York opera singers and Grobecker's Swiss Singers and Yodlers, are some of the other notable attractions.
The Sibyl Sammis Singers will be the attraction on Thursday afternoon. They are a vocal quartet emanating from the studios of Sibyl Sammis MeDermid, of Chicago. They present a program of ensemble, quartets, trios, duets, as well as solo appearances. Costumed sketches are a pleasing feature. On Thursday night beginning at 8 o'clock the Sibyl Sammis Singers will give a thirty minute prelude after which Dr. H. E. Rompel will give his great lecture, "Facing the Task." Permanent patriotism, community co-operation and industrial responsibility are some of the great topics presented in this lecture. "Dad" Rompel is the name given to Dr. Rompel by the thousands of sailors who learned to know him at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station, where he has been civilian pastor since 1917.
As a lecturer he presents themes of importance.
The Chautauqua here will be in charge of R. E. Bendell
