Another transportation artery has been added to the Seward area highway systems. The latest addition is the roadway which connects up the Nash road with Fourth of July creek area. The road which joins the Nash road is about 12 miles long.
Tie cutters, fishermen and farmers living across Resurrection Bay all have voiced their approval of naming the road the Challman highway, as it is through his efforts and means of Fred Challman that this roadway was constructed.
Challman, 'tie king' of that area, has had two men working on the road construction throughout the entire summer and the road is now ready for travel.
A description of the road as given to The Gateway is as follows:
The road begins from the Nash road at "Pistol Pete" Anderson's homestead, thence up to the Hoffman homestead and up along Moonshine creek, through Blueberry Valley.
From Blueberry Valley the road runs up the right fork of Fourth of July Creek, close to the old copper mine, and on up to a glacier.
It is pointed out that the Challman road passes through a very scenic country. There are a number of lakes in Blueberry Valley and a 100-foot fall in Moonshine Creek. Blueberry Valley, as the name implies, should be a mecca for blueberry seekers. Grouse and big game also abound in areas around the highway.
It is not known how satisfactory the road is for auto travel.
Judged by the number of snowshoes being sent out to Westward communities lately it appears that the residents out there are getting ready for plenty of snow.
