Some rich and astounding developments will soon be made in regard to the Memphis swindle. It appears that the Government lost nearly nine hundred thousand dollars through the transaction of Parkman, Brooks & Co., of that city. A large number of surreptitious five-twenty gold coupons are daily being returned to the Treasury cancelled. The cheat was discovered by finding two coupons bearing the same numbers, showing fraud somewhere. The duplicates appear to have been printed from the same plate as the genuine. Whether they are manufactured in New York or are stolen from the Treasury and afterwards numbered, is a mystery yet to be solved.
