Full Text

It is now confidently asserted, that the British ministry have at length determined to give up the posts on our frontiers, as soon as others can be prepared for the reception of their troops and stores within their own lines, as settled by the treaty of peace. However honest and sincere their intentions may be in this respect, yet they will undoubtedly deprive America of the benefits and advantages that would otherwise accrue to her subjects from the fur trade, in that quarter, this and the ensuing season. A chain of forts, necessary to preserve an extensive communication along their borders, cannot possibly be erected this fall, for, by the time the engineers, who are gone to survey the ground for this purpose, trace the lines and make report, the inclemency of the weather will compel their troops to seek for shelter in winter quarters.
