THE TREASURER OF NEW JERSEY.

It will be recollected that the late Treasurer of this state Major Gordon, was reported, by the committee appointed by the legislature to investigate his accounts to be a defaulter to a large amount; in consequence of which he was removed from office, and his property all seized by the sheriff. Since that time, the cashier of the Trenton State Bank, Mr. L Rickey, has, in presence of several other gentleman, investigated his accounts, and it appears by the result of his investigation, that Major Gordon, so far from being a public defaulter, has actually paid to his successor, 4,190 dollars more than he ever received.
