Full Text
The ostensible object of anticipating the usual commencement of the session, is to enable the Assembly to discharge its constitutional duty of filling any vacancy that may occur in the Electoral Ticket. The Electors being required to give their votes on the first Wednesday in December, which happens this year to fall on the first day of the month, while the first Monday will be five days afterwards, rendered the step necessary, if not indispensable.
Another object, it is said, is to afford an opportunity of counselling the Electors, in the event of a difficulty. It is expected that the session will be a long one.--Many subjects of more than usual interest will present themselves--among which, will be the election of a Senator, to fill the vacancy occasioned by the death of the venerable John Taylor, of Caroline; the important question, whether the James River Canal shall be prosecuted or abandoned; the still more important one, whether Virginia will aid or obstruct the grand Potomac project; and the most important of all, whether the present inconsistent & anti-republican Constitution of the State shall be held like the Laws of the Medes and Persians, or a Convention be called, and the rights of the citizens established upon a rational and republican basis.
