Every person who wishes the advancement of the fine arts, in this country, must feel a sincere pleasure in reflecting on the great number of American Artists, who, in various lines of profession have borne away the palm from the most celebrated masters of Europe, though the latter were possessed of infinite advantages from which those of this country have been wholly precluded, viz. the numberless remains of the grand, sublime, and incomparable performances of the ancients, as models whereby to form and improve their taste; the instructions of able professors, &c. &c. Here might be named; a West, a Copley, a Stewart, a Barlow, &c. &c. who are adding to the reputation of their country in England, at the same time that their talents are rewarded with princely fortunes.

In addition to the number, we are happy to find that Mr. Samuel Jennings, a young artist, who left Philadelphia last summer and since arrived in London, has met with a most cordial reception from the connoisseurs and admirers of the fine arts there, who, from the specimens which he has already given of his performances, pronounce him likely to equal any of the most reputed artists of his country.
