Nominee of Independence Party Hailed as "Trust Buster."
NEW YORK, Sept. 1.-There was not room enough in the new clubhouse of the large Independence league to hold the large crowd that gathered last night for the dual purpose of being present at the notification of Thomas L. Hisgen, Independence party candidate for President, and the house-warming of the club.
William R. Hearst and Mr. Hisgen entered the clubhouse shortly after 8 o'clock and were greeted by an outburst of cheers. Hisgen was enthusiastically referred to as the "trust buster," and "our next President."
These titles brought forth more cheering.
Many inquiries were made for John Temple Graves, the party's candidate for Vice President, who was expected to be present, but he is ill at the Warm Sulphur Springs in Virginia.
Melvin G. Palliser was chairman of the meeting and Henry A. Powell made the notification speech. Mr. Hisgen stood in the archway between two small rooms and read his acceptance, which was loudly cheered.
