Full Text
By an announcement published in another column, it will be seen that it is the intention of our townsman, Mr. James H. Smith, to be a candidate for the office of District Attorney of Venango county, subject to the usages of the Republican party at its primary election in May. While we make it a standing rule not to meddle with politics, we cannot refrain from saying a word or two in his favor. We have been fortunately acquainted with Mr. S. for the past four years, both at Pithole and in this place, and in our intercourse with him, both socially and otherwise, have found him fair honorable and upright. He is a young and rising lawyer, well posted in Coke and Blackstone, and has already made his mark on more than one occasion, displaying signal talent and ability. If chosen to that responsible office we have no doubt he will sustain the position in a manner alike creditable to himself and his constituency.
